Voting for Ah Lian or How Lian?

Just in case for the uninitiated,
Ah Lian = Lee Li Lian
How Lian = arrogant, show-off, conceited

I can still recall Michael Palmer saying that he did not know that there are poor people in Singapore until he joined politics. Maybe he also did not know that there are one-woman men in Singapore!

Now we have another guy from PAP saying, "Well, everybody has a car." This same guy wishes to take over the job that Michael Palmer lost due to his "Tell Laura I Love Her".

EVERYBODY HAS A CAR?  In Singapore? With the current cheapest COE at $92,100?

Geez, where did this guy come from?

If PAP has to scrape the bottom of the barrel to come up with a candidate like this to represent the constituents of Punggol East, I think they have big problems. Very big!

And I'll leave my readers to describe the face . . .
and hopefully pass the video to all in Punggol East to know the smirk [Link]

  1. On top of the videos at thos thread, the other occasion that the Arse Doctor radiated his conceit was he iterated he was me and me was Doctor Arse.
At his Rally, his finger was pointedly and sharply raised high above his head numerous times as if to show how capable he must be.

It is definitely fine, even desirable to be firm, stern, serious and sincere. There is no need to ACT humble and insignificant which at times seemed to be an inherent nature of the Same Doctor. Maybe many do have many different faces to suit the situation and occasion. Cant say much of such common human nature, however, sincerity seemed compromised when one acts to entertain. Rather a spontaneous demeanour from the heart
than an action made to appear nice and cordial.

Me maybe guilty of reading too much.

Let me paraphrase Jean-Jacques Rousseau's Confessions: Let them eat cake.

No car? -- the hoi polloi can always use their private jet.

Zhu Muzhi, president of the China Society for Human Rights Studies, asserts that Rousseau's version is an alteration of a much older anecdote: "An ancient Chinese emperor who, being told that his subjects didn't have enough rice to eat, replied, 'Why don't they eat meat?'"[4] That emperor was recorded by historians as Emperor Hui of Jin.

Guess you are just as good as the MSM, the question was on his family transport.

It was not on the rest of Singapore, not accurate to say the least on your article.

    You may claim conceit.

But if a person who thru dint of hard work and intellegience and stil wants to hava family life, yet you can claim all your articles on conceit and pride.

Considering that he is basically arguing in terms of issues and being gentlemanly and likewise all the rest, can we stop such personal slander as it does no side of the political divide, well.

Now how to get 2 season parking tickets for two cars in HDB estates where a family is allowed 1 car only?

  9. Dear Onion of January 21, 2013 at 3:01 PM,

Thank you but I'm not as good as msm. The question on family transport came later.

    Check this out:
The reporter asked:"The citizens on line are also asking, you know, you say you live a 5-room HDB flat and things like that but do you own other assets?"

Answer: "I don't own any private property."

Question: "And I mean the car you drive and stuff, you know?"

    Answer:"We'll, everybody has a car."

Another reporter asked, "How many cars you have in your family"

He replied, " I have two. My wife drives one . I drive one"

    1. He also iterated that his wife and himself are both professionals.
It is as if all professionals by definition must each owns a car, lol.

I will say that if husband and wife are professionals, they should not be living in SUBSIDIZED PUBLIC HOUSING, if me goes by his logic. BUT, i will give much respect to successful people who are humble and frugal.

  14. I hope the PAP are grateful that there are people like theonion who stand up for them, when party members face a little gentle sniping or have the absurdities of what they say pointed out.

So many of us find it so hard because we so dislike people who run others down viciously, and often for the flimsiest of reasons. People who keep on hounding citizens, out of a job and out of the country. theonion may want to bear in mind that non PAP lovers do not do this.

Do note tho that theonion grossly exaggerates in his defence, rather like the people he defends. He uses words like ''slander'', when people question if every professional today indeed owns a car as claimed, and whether Everybody Does own a car, as is also claimed. If Everybody does own a car, how did the trains and buses get so packed, even on public holidays, even at off-peak hours.

Perhaps theonion needs to peel away the many layers that protect onions and get to the real hearts and truths of things? By and large, people do not expect Everyone to agree with their views, but to argue on fact. And let's face it, not Everyone owns a car, and certainly not Every professional does.

Let's hope, if Koh is voted in, he too has an epiphany like Palmer, tho many in Singapore believe one cant learn anything after 40. And, unlike Palmer, Koh does something about what he learns.

  17. "Considering that he is basically arguing in terms of issues and being gentlemanly and likewise all the rest, can we stop such personal slander as it does no side of the political divide"

How come when the conversation turns uncomfortable, "theonion" (stomping feet like Tin Pei Ling) like to just wave their hands and ask that we "stop such personal slander".

But how come when James Gomez said something out of context, the MSM, and every Minister from top down, can go after him, and WP, like a hungry pack of dogs? How come its all right then for PAP to say this is not just a stray remark issue, IT IS A (thumping fist in righteousness) CHARACTER ISSUE!!! Its about the kind of people you want to send to Parliament!!

Look - the tone of today's political "debate" has been set by the PAP. When Saw had an affair, look at the kind of comments Ministers including KBW made. The WP has let the people down, sold you a bad fruit, etc etc.

I guess its not very pleasant taking it on the receiving end, isn't it? That's why there's such a thing as "lead by example" - if PAP sets an (ahemmmm) gracious tone from the start, the people will take the cue and follow.

And oh, there's another saying too : If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

  20. Read this insider's take (Scroobal) of the situation. Apparently, PAP is starting to sweat ...

Re: Punggol BE Pundits stumped, PAP launches rescue boat
This is what pundits made up of policy wonks, academics, roundtable and political wannabees and bullshitters came out with yesterday. Punggol East is marginal to WP while Joo Chiat and East Coast is core. That was the starting position by all without exception when election was called when the discussions began. The focus thereafter everyone agreed was on SDP rather than WP. Dr Koh's poverty campaign threw everyone off. The question to ask is why was this man doing something unusual.

Then the little sitreps starting flowing in from those who are connected - PAP unsure, Palmer in 2011 underperformed and reduced the precint's margin while under a GRC in 2006 of over 30% to just 13.5% after it was carefully selected and carved out. Also told that Palmer got PA's A team of GRC organisers to work with him, that party water wands were also lost etc etc.

Some things considered trivia also started to loom quite large. Its common knowledge that PAP talks to the captive press reporters to gauge ground readings. What they got was quite interesting. Same reporters who covered both PAP and WP door to door as well as walk-outs saw distinctly different receptions. Residents were forthcoming, talkative, and even offered drinks and snacks to the Lilian and her crew but not for the son of Punggol though they remained cordial. Png was considered the new Auntie Killer while LTK and SL are considered as legends.

Faisal also came across very well and was well received with his family in tow. Apparently he has got a killer smile. WP was also using all their MPs - Pritam, Yee, G and Chen to good effect. The notion that they are perceived as being with the people is a big factor and might have changed PAP's mind of bringing in the rest of their big wigs..

Most importantly WP volunteers was a composite of society - young, old, fat, thin and looked sincere.

And when you see the photos of the people with WP, you can see the warmth there too. I myself am surprised by the warm reception :

  21. Even Animals do not engage in devious and perverted sex, only debauched and perverted minds do.

A heated debate on the issue began in 2007, ........Siew Kum Hong filed a petition to repeal Section 377A, which he cited as discriminatory and a violation of constitutional safeguards on equal rights.

"If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery."

In Slate Magazine, William Saletan drew a legal connection between gay sex and incest between consenting adults.[76] As he described in his article, in 2003, U.S. Senator Rick Santorum commented on a pending U.S. Supreme Court case involving sodomy laws (primarily as a matter of
Constitutional rights to Privacy and Equal Protection under the Law). He stated: "If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery."[76]

However, David Smith of the Human Rights Campaign professed outrage that Santorum placed being gay on the same moral and legal level as someone engaging in incest. Saletan argued that, legally and morally, there is essentially no difference between the two, and went on to support incest between consenting adults being covered by a legal right to privacy.[76] UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh has made similar arguments.[77]

In a more recent article, Saletan said that incest is wrong because it introduces the possibility of irreparably damaging family units by introducing "a notoriously incendiary dynamic—sexual tension—into the mix".[78]

  27. There is a saying in French "Plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose"...

If I may quote from a wise old man"...in this country don’t gamble on the unknown and untried. Elections are meant for the people to choose the party which will govern the country. The assumption is that the people know what is good for them. But in reality the majority of the people do not know. They vote either for their race, or party because of the propaganda they are exposed to. Only a small minority understand the issues and the quality of the parties contesting.

The idea that change must always be for the better is not always true. Milton Obote was said to be a bad President of Uganda. So Idi Amin seized power. He was worse and had to be forcibly removed by a rebel army.

Iraq was ruled by Saddam Hussain as a dictatorship. He was said to be very cruel. The United States decided there should be a regime change. This involved killing 200,000 innocent Iraqis and destroying their country.

There is a new Government now but it is doubtful that it is any better than that of Saddam. Where there was no confrontation between Sunnis and Shia under Saddam, there is now violent confrontation between the two, each bombing and killing the other..."
