Who is responsible? Who is paying the price?

"As the two friends wondered through the snow on their way home, Piglet grinned to himself thinking how lucky he was to have a best friend like Pooh.

Pooh thought to himself:

If the pig sneezes,
he's fucken dead."

Why do some parents blame the teacher, school or childcare centre, when their kid gets a fever after school?
  • "Why you teachers so irresponsible?"
  • "You don't know about the H1N1 flu, meh?"
  • "Why you allow child with fever come to school/centre?
Why do the same parents insist that their kid should still go to school/childcare centre when their same poor kid has a fever of 39 degrees?

When asked to bring their child home, we hear:
  • "Hello, we have to work, you know?"
  • "Just a slight temperature only, why you make my life so difficult?"
  • "I paid the school fees, why my prince cannot come to school?'
I learned of the comments when chatting with some teachers today on the current testing for fever in schools.

It is only natural to take the easy way out but with the experience of SARS and the current H1N1 scare, I think it's worthwhile to pay a little price of inconvenience to take care of our children during this 'Orange Alert'. To be "penny wise and pound foolish" by outsourcing our kids to teachers and caregivers during this uncertain period can be deadly!

Part of growing up is our ability to account and be responsible for our action/inaction and not put blame on others when mishap (sickness, accident, personal or material loss) happens.

Like in the picture above, Pooh could have walked with Tigger instead of Piglet who should be resting at home (quarantined).

While we are at it, it's interesting to read :What's Missing From Every Media Story about H1N1 Influenza [link]

As with the current economic downturn, who should we blame? - Ourselves or Government?
Who is responsible? - USA or Globalisation or Government?
Who is paying the price? - Ourselves (retrenchment/pay cut) or Government?

Or should we blame bad luck? [link]

  1. Frankly, I think the time has come to charge parents for irresponsible behaviour. There should be some law passed in Parliament to act against this sort of potentially dangerous behaviour. I am only suggesting that action be taken if there is the possibility of an epidemic.

  2. Not only such irresponsible parents should be charged. All those idiots who coughs or sneezes without a handkerchief or tissue to their faces.

One HiNi carrier who does this criminal act in a crowded mrt carriage and all is lost!

The Singapore SARS crisis started with one PRC man sneezing this way in the lift lobby of a Hong Kong hotel and some Singaporeans were infected and brought the disease back. Talk of being at the wrong place and at the wrong time.

  3. I sent my daughter to school (primary) on Monday morning with a face mask because she was coughing. And it was not a serious cough. The mask not only prevents her from sharing germs, but actually subdues the cough.

Her schoolmates made fun of her and told her to take it off. So she did. She knows they are naive idiots though, and is still happy to wear her mask outside in public if we tell her to.

So I told her, ok then, share your germs generously with your schoolmates. Our conscience is clear.

Singaporeans have been clearing the masks off the shelves, but do you see anyone using them? They actually think the masks are some kind of armour, and have no inkling that masks are meant to prevent the sick from spreading germs.

  4. That's the Singaporean mentality. Kiasu, Kiasi and Kiabo.

Stock up everthing. Even masks which they will not wear. I suspect they don't even know what it's for.

And the typical Singaporean don't even know how cold, flu and now H1N1 virii are spread. That's why they engage in the criminal behaviour of sneezing into the air and thus endangering everyone around them within a radius of 3 metres.

    LOL.
