Who Blew The Whistle?

Sex, sex, and more sex!

After the big fook on the alleged top honchos of CNB and SCDF getting free sexual rides, the intriguing episode of sex for grade in NUS is getting too rich for my damaged heart!

National University of Singapore associate law professor Tey Tsun Hang was charged Friday morning with six counts of corruption in a sex-for-grades scandal.
In two of the charges, Tey, 41, a former district judge, was accused of having corruptly obtained sexual gratification from a Darinne Ko Wen Hui in July 2010, when she had been a student at NUS, as inducement for showing favour in assessing her academic performance, court documents showed. [Link]

Instead of riding the high horse and judging the sexual behaviour of others, would it not be good if we get a little more mindful. If logic goes as logic should, I doubt Darinne Ko [Link] would blow the whistle, disgrace and hurt her reputation by exposing herself. If not her, who?

Tey said, "At stake is my liberty, integrity and livelihood. My reputation has been tarnished and my family suffers a as result," he said.

"I am known to speak up, amongst other things, on the Singapore legal system. I write in good faith, and with no ill intent. In similar vein, I shall fearlessly defend myself against the charges, and vigorously.

"I have no illusion about the arduous journey ahead of me.

"I pray for a worthy trial -- a trial that allows the truth to come to light, a trial that allows me to vindicate myself," he said.

Though the statement sounds somewhat similar, somehow, I read Tey differently from a certain pastor who went through extreme measure to make his china wine spouse a rock star. I delved deeper and realised that associate professor Tey Tsun Hang may have committed a greater "sin" than what's alleged - having sex with his student!

He wrote "Legal Consensus: Supreme Executive, Supine Jurisprudence, Suppliant Profession of Singapore" in Hong Kong University. At HUMAN RIGHTS QUARTERLY, he wrote, Confining the Freedom of the Press in Singapore: A “Pragmatic” Press for “Nation-Building”?

What he has written is pretty "cheem" for my reading but from what I can understand, what  he wrote is not going to win him any 'pingat' (medal) on any Singapore National Day!

The allegation and the exposure by msm so far has left worse than shit on the reputation of National University of Singapore associate law professor Tey Tsun Hang and the good name of a young lady Darinne Ko Wen Hui starting her legal career.

So who the crap blew the whistle on both of them?

More importantly,
WHY?

Thank you for highlighting this.

Legal Consensus: Supreme Executive, Supine Jurisprudence, Suppliant Profession of Singapore

Author: Tsun Hang Tey

Singapore's schizophrenic jurisprudence is fascinating to many legal scholars. Its genius has been to present Singapore as one of the most sophisticated and open societies with its common law, all the while being careful to help keep its highly-controlled political and social system largely intact.

Tey puts forward a brilliant examination of a jurisprudence that has been assembled over decades. It builds on meticulously mined case-law, to illuminate issues ranging from the use of civil defamation proceedings to tackle political dissent, the use of death penalty and criminal due process, to arrive at some insights into the core political values enforced by the Singapore judiciary. It is a careful study of what goes into its decision-making and reasoning process. It throws a great deal of light on how the Singapore judiciary has bought into – wholesale - the political emphasis on the supreme importance of government in human affairs, and on the overriding priority of stability and status quo - a worldview that emphasises respect for hierarchical relationships, that privileges the collective over the individual, and regards voices different from the dominant political discourse as dangerous to Singapore’s social and political order.

With impressive zeal, Tey works through a massive amount of jurisprudence to expose its Legalistic thinking. But it also paints a disturbing picture, of a worldview that challenges the assumptions about the primacy of individual rights and the essential principles of constitutional reasoning that lie at the heart of democratic systems. The broader thesis seems to be that the Singapore Consensus could not have been constructed without its Legal Consensus, itself a result of the consistent complicity of the Singapore judiciary. This book hints at the power relations and dynamics between the political establishment and the Singapore judiciary.

Sound like a threat on PAP. He seemed to know many things Singaporeans don't? The words sounds like he is going to disclose the "fact" if somone tried to do him in.

What kind of BS is that ? Speak up ? Who do you speak to ? If you really so powerful and influential, why the hell I have this perception that kangaroo is running amok when it comes to politics justice , and I still harbouring this perception, and worse, I don't think I am alone to think likewise . Judge Pillar is just exception rather than norm that dare to exercise justice.

Please, don't try to act as old man to overrate and brag your own importance when you are just nobody. Anyone can talkcock and sing their own song.

There's something not kosher here. There's more to this case than meets the eye. A third party involvement, a personal vendetta?

If the shit times is truly a serious tabloid, it can do some investigative journalism here, or get upstaged by social media again. Unless...

Reminds one of Chee Soon Juan and the $200 courier fees and inflated taxi claims.

Tey is not a nobody. He was a district judge, a lawyer at one of the top law firms in Singapore, and a prominent professor.

As odd (annoying, even) as he may have been sometimes, it doesn't necessarily follow that he's guilty.

People should open their minds and don;t just read what is on the surface. This case just came out of blue sky and you wonder why?

I bet you if Professor Christoper Balding moves to Singapore and continue to write what he writes, he would have been in tons of strange lawsuits one after another.

Stop looking to Yale. Maybe is time HArvard Law Faculty set up an a REAL institution here instead to ensure academic freedom. Somebody might just behave if their alma mater is here to keep any eye on their acts.

Mr Fish, you good ah. Ape is still puzzled who is the accuser.

Assuming the allegations are true, why would Ms Ko blow the whistle, putting her academic credibility at stake? Stricken by guilty conscience? If it's someone else, why and how he or she come to know? The giver or recipient big mouth and bragged about their extra ordinary skills?

There's more than meets the eye. Ape has enough of speculation. Will see what truth comes to light.

Probably Mr Tey offended someone from PAP.

Both parties claim they are not guilty of any wrong doing. Why is the AGC so zealously pressing on with the charges on corruption, and the CPIB all over the place? Who blew the whistle? Who is out to get him? That is the question.

In response to media queries, the AGC said in an emailed statement: “There is no link between these charges and Mr. Tey’s academic publications and writing”.

Methinks, AGC dost protest too much. Anyway, we'll have to wait and see.

Possibly it's a grudge or revenge from a subordinate who can only hit back by blowing the whistle.

Obviously we have read enough fiction or seen enough movies to know that this sort of things can only be exposed with the help of internal spies or secret agents.

One previous detainee even revealed that the secret police has ever threatened that they can kill anyone by running them over to look like an innocent accident.

So can this sort of thing happen in Singapore ? It this is true, then it must be scary that we may have very wicked and evil-hearted people put in charge ?
