It's His Fault!

"Mr Lee Kuan Yew said Saturday that Singaporeans will need to marry and have children if they do not want their country to fold up." [Link]

From which orifice did these words come from? His mouth or his anus?

This is the same bloke who called us to "Stop At Two".

PrintEmail
"We must encourage those who earn less than $200 per month and cannot afford to nurture and educate many children never to have more than two... We will regret the time lost if we do not now take the first tentative steps towards correcting a trend which can leave our society with a large number of the physically, intellectually and culturally anaemic." (1967)
Lee Kuan Yew,
Minister Mentor
[Link for more Hors D'oeuvre from PAP leaders]

I remember through force of fear and/or favour, Singaporean were punished for having more than two children and, fertile women were subjected to sterilization in the 70's.

We reap what Lee Kuan Yew sow. With his highfalutin' ideas and policies on eugenics, we now have Lee Kuan Yew to thank for a "physically, intellectually and culturally anaemic" population imported recently, mostly from mainland China and some from India and elsewhere!

Is it time for him to repent? [Link]

Stop at Two

In the late 1960s, Singapore was a developing nation and had not yet undergone the demographic transition; though birth rates fell from 1957 to 1970, in 1970, birth rates rose as women who were themselves the product of the postwar baby boom reached maturity. Fearing that Singapore's growing population might overburden the developing economy, Lee started a vigorous Stop at Two family planning campaign.Abortion and sterilisation were legalised in 1970, and women were urged to get sterilised after their second child. Women without a O-level degree, deemed low-income and lowly-educated, were offered by the government seven days' paid sick leave and $10,000 SGD in cash incentives to voluntarily undergo the procedure.[5][9][13]

A historical poster from the widespread "Stop at Two" campaign, which created many posters across different languages that were displayed in schools, hospitals and public workplaces.
The government also added a gradually increasing array of disincentives penalising parents for having more than two children between 1969 and 1972, raising the per-child costs of each additional child:[5][14]
  • Workers in the public sector would not receive maternity leave for their third child or any subsequent children
  • Hospitals were required to charge incrementally higher fees for each additional child.
  • Income tax deductions would only be given for the first two children
  • Large families were penalised in housing assignments.
  • Third or fourth children were given lower priorities in education;
  • Top priority in top-tier primary schools would be given only to children whose parents had been sterilised before the age of forty.

The great grandma of my grandkids always remind us that it is disrespectful to talk bad about the dead, especially the new dead.  I'm telling it like it is now before it is too late. I respect the dead.

Then again, with his riches, security forces and coterie of medical specialists to ensure his longevity, we may just kick the bucket before he does.

  1. I find it amusing that PAP has never taken responsibility for the alarmingly low birth rate. It clearly shows a dying nation. PAP needs to seriously look into why (educated) people are leaving the country in droves and very few are returning.

There are so many flaws with current policies that I don't even know where to start. A survey of young Singaporeans shows a majority wanting to migrate to another country.

My humble opinion is to stop running the country like a corporation.

  3. Fish,

Yet another blame game from you , which should find plenty of echoes from many other similar fishes in the same pond !

Pl pause and think: Would you or many others be able to indulge in your daily hobbies from such a comfortable position if nothing was done then when the unemployment figures were in the teens and many parents were struggling just to feed the growing number of mouths which appear in quick succession year after year ? Read the current debate in Philippines.

  4. the bloke want to make it seem like its all Sporeans fault and deflect all blame from him and his successor son. Cunning old fox as usual.

  5. nizhemoshou,

Alas, you are seeing shadows everywhere ! Bad for health if all you can do is to indulge in name calling and spreading cynicism. I am no PAP supporter. Just an ordinary Singaporean who hopes to see more balanced voices. This morning, I chanced upon yet another one of those classic rantings on social media, and merely wanted to give a gentle reminder to the author. Fish does have some good postings from time to time, even though I hope he could refrain from use of vulgar words. But definitely not this latest piece.

    Good.
So the Pro Alien Party takes responsibility for the disastrous "Stop at Two" policy which is the cause of our current population problems.

    Question.
    With an overwhelming parliamentary majority.
With so many scholars at your beck and call.
Why did you not forsee and reverse the disastrous 'Stop at Two" policy earlier?

I thought there are those among you who do nothing but forecast and divine the future?

  11. In the old days, he did not like to see workers pulling electrical cables to be laid into the ground.
Neither did he liked to see people digging furrows to lay cables.

Therefore whenever he left town for conferences such as CHOGM in Lusaka,
all the public services departments such as PUB,PWD, TAS would quickly dig up the road along Orchard road between Oxley and Istana.

None of these directors dared to stand up to face him. So everything cosmetic for his visual pleasure.

Only one man: Francis dared to stand firm.
But he was not in charge of any digging or cabling.

We are a nation of cowards.

We value our own comforts more than anything. And he/they know it.

National Cowards day is 9th August.

    Hahaha.....
    Beautiful!

Me born at the beginning of the 50s like Fish and today we lament the loss of the good old days; pre 80s. The past was never that bad as compared to today.
    And
    tomorrow is likely worse.

  13. Re we are cowards: I'm afraid so. But it takes a lot to stand up to a man like Kuan Yew, who has a very strong personality.

It is a pity those who could probably allowed their sense of self-preservation and awe to overcome their courage, and still do. We're too entrenched in simply obeying those with power.

It's an even greater pity LKY hasn't been a big enough and confident enough man to at least Hear others, and consider he might ever be wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  14. LKY was so dominant that after he indicted the Stop At Two policy, no one would dare to change the course even if they knew that things have changed. They were all waiting for him to say its time to change.

They have waited and the time has come. LKY says change, and everyone is shouting change. The change came too late and it is time to stop having too many heads in the island. But the obedient would not dare to tell him.

This change is long overdue and overtaken by events. What needed to be done was to consolidate at 4m and stabilise the economy. It was not, it went crazy and now 5.6m not enough.

  19. To the piranhas, I may have committed blasphemy by writing my perception of their "god".

Where blasphemy goes, a friend suggested that maybe the smartest of the smarts in Singapore should have incestuous relationship with their own and create more "educated" Singaporeans for the benefit of Singapore. I thought that was mean. But with the frustration and angst of many, I'm not surprise by such outburst.

So who qualifies as the "educated" men and women of Singapore to marry and procreate? What about the "uneducated" Singaporean men and women? Are they supposed to stay single and jerk off on their own or go to prostitutes of either gender instead of marrying and reproducing?

Discrimination of the crazy knows no bounds.
