Dignity, Human Rights and ISA

Instead of my usual rest after a hectic physical class of rebounding, circular strength training and joint mobility exercise on an early Saturday morning, I took a quick bath and rushed down to Bras Basah Complex to learn more about ISA from the legal experts.

I arrived just before the proceedings started and I numbered 50 plus when I registered at the entrance of the meeting room. Fortunately, there was no notice to say that the meeting was cancelled like the previous forum I attended at the Verge [Link].

Jack Lee, the first speaker, brought us through the birth of ISA, subsequent amendments and what the future holds in ISA. I'm not going through the details that Jack shared but what caught my attention were the "pow chiak" changes that put the government in a sure-win position in dealing with detainees through the years.

Peter Low, the second speaker, shared with us his experience in defending detainees of ISA and his frustration of representing them at the Advisory Board review. It so flabbergasted him that, weeks earlier, he wrote a letter to ST [read here] which surprisingly was published and I'm sure will enlighten many.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, the third speaker, Choo Zheng Xi could not make it. Ex-NMP Siew Kum Hong took his place and spoke to us instead.

In attending this forum, I've learned that Teo Chee Hean's version of ISA and why it must continue to be a sacred cow is just his and/or PAP's way of continuing the sure-win status quo.

What I found ironic is that ISA (in its technical details) is supposed to protect the integrity of freedom and human rights. It is a shame that it is used for other purposes.

For those who want to get nearer the truth about ISA, especially on the Marxist Conspiracy, the forum attendees struck gold with the presence of so-called "Marxist conspirators" Vincent Cheng and Teo Soh Lung. They shared with us the indignity they suffered under detention. When asked if he was tortured, Vincent said he did not have his genitals electrocuted nor his finger nails extracted by pliers. However, he was interrogated in a shivery cold room for many hours with sleep deprivation, was slapped, continuously struck on his chest and back by the forearm of his interrogator and also punched in his abdomen. Soh Lung, "Beyond the Blue Gate", said that apart from the cold room treatment, they took away her underwear and her glasses and she was also slapped by her interrogator. The way she described the warmth on her face when slapped sent a chill to my spine.

I understand that 'Maruah' in Malay means 'Dignity'. Though I had the opportunity to chat briefly with Vincent and Soh Lung, I did not have the chance to ask them if their dignity was negatively impacted by the atrocity inflicted upon them by ISA.

During the 60's under Operation Cold Store detainees like Lim Chin Siong, Chia Thye Poh, Dr Lim Hock Siew, etc. were tagged as 'communists'. During the 80's, detainees like Vincent Cheng and Teo Soh Lung were tagged as "Marxist Conspirators". Today, detainees like Mas Selamat Kastari and others are tagged as "terrorists" [Link].

With ISA where the PAP government can lock up anyone by tagging anyone as a 'security threat', can we blame Singaporeans for being fearful in not speaking up for justice, democracy and righteousness?

Fear may be the standard operating procedure used in Singapore to govern and browbeating helps make the job easier [Link]. ISA for what it is worth is an instrument that that serves this purpose. That is why we have:
  • Media reporting about Martyn See of SFD being called up by the police for organising a human rights forum [Link]
  • Media reporting about SDP being investigated for having a tele-forum with Francis Seow and Tang Fong Har[Link]
  • Police warning people not to be at Raffles Place on a certain Saturday afternoon [Link]
Though the above messages are intimidating, Siew Kum Hong said at the Maruah forum that he hasn't been arrested for speaking what he spoke and doing what he did. With that, I'm hopeful that we are arriving . . . to be a better Singapore!

Having personally met Vincent Cheng and Teo Soh Lung and hear them speak of their loss of freedom and rights, I've come to understand that it is the fear of the loss of power (kiasu?) that makes leader use ISA to create fear to enhance and ensure their overpowering despotic power. With the current revelation and challenges [Link] from living detainees, the sound of silence from those challenged will ultimately damage their reputation and integrity.

I salute detainees like Vincent Cheng, Teo Soh Lung, Said Zahari, Dr Lim Hock Siew and many others who have written and spoken of the atrocities committed against them through ISA. I salute Peter Low for his fortitude in sharing his experience with us. With such exposure, eventually, fear will diminish and truth will prevail.

On a lighter note, my attending the forum gave me the opportunity and thrill of rubbing Kum Hong's botak head. Based on what I wrote on 8 July 2009 [Link], I should have kissed the Botak Head :)

Are Ex-ISD detainees in the limelight to radicalise us? Or wake us up from our slumber?

Mr Chia Thye Poh lost 32 years of his prime. Mr Said Zahari lost 17 years and Dr Lim Hock Siew lost almost 20 years. Ms Teo Soh Lung was detained from 21 May to 26 Sept 1987 and again from April 1988 to June 1990.

Many others were also incarcerated by ISD because "they posed a security threat". Security threat to who? The PAP (People And Population) of Singapore?

One can never cover a stink, no matter how wise or powerful one thinks one is. Someday, somehow, whatever vile deeds one has done will catch up with one. The skeletons just have to come out of the cupboard!

The Singapore Government has banned Mr Martyn See's video recording of the speech by former political prisoner Dr Lim Hock Siew [Link]. The reasons for the ban - "The Singapore Government will not allow individuals who have posed a security threat to Singapore's interests in the past, to use media platforms such as films to make baseless accusations against the authorities, give a false portrayal of their previous activities in order to exculpate their guilt, and undermine public confidence in the Government in the process," [Link].

If so, why not use the leethal weapon, the court, to sue the pants off Dr Lim for his baseless accusations?

You can bluff all the people some of the time,
You can bluff some people all of the time, but
You cannot bluff all the people all of the time.

With internet, youtube and vimeo, we have become less blind and less deaf. We can separate the wheat from the chaff. We can see and hear more clearly and know who the liar is, who the hypocrites are . . .

Are they afraid of the ex-ISD detainees (namely, Said Zahari, Lim Hock Siew and Teo Soh Lung) because they know that truth exposes, embarrasses and hurts the guilty villians?

For those who missed Dr Lim Hock Siew's speech, here's the transcription. [Link]

If you want to see more clearly, I recommend that you read Ms Teo Soh Lung's "Beyond The Blue Gate." before it becomes another "security threat" to the authorities and gets outlawed too.

How morally depraved, ignoble or wicked can a despot or party be?

Until we know, we may never know.

Many thanks to Mr Martyn See, Mr Said Zahari, Dr Lim Hock Siew and Ms Teo Soh Lung for showing us some.

Grow and Share or Buy and Fix?

I'm touched. In the cyber world, I do not know who I'm connecting with but from the comments in my last post, I'm happy and humbled by the well wishes from my readers. It's nice to know people do care. I'm physically fine and I'm back at "get it off my chest". Apart from thanking my caring readers, I'd also like to thank all the ladies and gentlemen who have the fortitude and gumption to stand up against the PAPP. [Link] during this general election.

Having seen what they have done to their political opponents (real and perceived) like
  • Lim Chin Siong
  • Lim Hock Siew
  • Chia Thye Poh
  • Said Zahari
  • JB Jeyaratnam
  • Chee Soon Juan
  • Francis Seow
  • Tang Liang Hong
  • James Gomes
  • Vincent Cheng
  • Teo Soh Lung and many many others,
I respect all the opposition candidates for overcoming the fear and taking on the mighty arsenal of the PAPP. I respect them for putting their money and life ( look what happened to Tang Liang Hong [Link]) where their mouth is in"building a democratic society based on justice and equality so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation". Win or lose, they are changing the political scene and contributing towards a better future for my children and my children's children. Yes, for that, we should vote for them and not let them lose their $16,000 election deposit!

As much as attack is the best form of defense, I can't help but wonder if the PAPPeople are barking up the wrong tree again. Remember the James Gomez saga of '06. Now the silly question on the meaning of WP's "First World Parliament" by The Hen, The Sham and Ranee is making them stupid as stupid can. As a citizen I understand "First World Parliament" to mean a parliament where mercenary ministers cannot simply change the laws to increase GST from 5% to 7% under the guise of helping the poor. Or raise their salaries to millions at their own whims and fancies. It also means they cannot unconscionably take away the Estate Duty Act to enrich themselves and make the rich richer. If "First World Parliament" is present, Millionaire Ministers may be less arrogant and work for the people instead of lording over and insulting people, telling them it is cheaper to rot and die in JB than in Singapore!

Meanwhile the Ministers, I mean the Millionaires, are confusing us with the big "F" word again. Yes. it's the word FEAR! The PM (Prime Millionaire), SM (Senior Millionaire) and the MM (Millionaire Mentor) and the rest of the Millionaire Ministers are all at it! Yes, believe you me, if you vote in anyone other than the PAPP, you are screwed! Your HDB flat will not be worth the air it sits on, investors will pack up and go, you'll all be jobless, terrorists will have a party in Sentosa, Marina Bay and Orchard Road and Mas Selamat Kasturi will be the President of Singapore! And yes, according to another Millionaire, the latest WP manifesto of making HDB flats more affordable is nothing more than cunning plan of WP to raid the country's reserve![Link] Oh, please grow up! We have enough of this crap! It's damn tiring to listen to the same old scare tactics all the time! Oh, now they are the servants of the people! [Link]. Yes, they may behave like your maids, knocking on your doors, visit your homes, kiss your babies, shake your hands and of course, buying your votes . . . until the GE is over. Then the arrogance, the lording over, the screwing of the "daft and complacent" Singaporeans starts all over again!

With credentials that candidates like Teo Soh Lung, Hazel Poa, Tony Tan, Vincent Wejeysingha, Tan Jee Say, Ang Yong Guan, Chen Show Mao and Benjamin Pwee have, it's hard for the PAPP to look for bicycle thieves! Silly as it is, they still try their luck in questioning the integrity of their opponents. The persistent questions by Hen and even George on the "intriguing" background of Chen Show Mao shows the character of Hen and George. The fact that Chen served NS even though he was not a citizen compared to the PAP's Janil who was too busy to do NS because he was saving kids' live at KK speaks volume of the quality of each candidate.

Unlike Kate Spade Sarah PeiLin and Janil who was too busy doing NS because he was saving kids' lives in KK [Link], this group of opposition candidates have the balls, the courage to take the road less traveled. Having run out of bicycle thieves to catch, I wonder what ammunition the PAPPeople will use against them. From the bottom of my damaged heart, I pray that none of them will be preyed like Tang Liang Hong. [Link] or forced to exile themselves like Francis Seow.

I read`recently that Prime Millionaire is not at all impressed with the performance of Sylvia Lim in parliament. Well, I beg to differ and I think this may be the best speech in Parliament yet!

I feel that Sylvia speaks for me and my fellow Singaporeans. To see the faces of the Millionaire Ministers and the rest of the PAPpeople while Sylvia spoke the truth of how they ride roughshod over the taxpayers is simply PRICELESS!

We need to tame the beasts that are out of control. We need them to be responsible, to be transparent. They must be open and held accountable for money in Temasek, in GIC. They must not just take the floods as a once-in-50-year-joke. They must not nonchalantly spend $400,000 to rename Marina Bay to a new name of Marina Bay [Link]. They must be answerable to the escape of Mas Selamat. They cannot budget $104 million but spent $387 million on a sports event without answering to the taxpayers. They must stop bragging about Singapore being a prized trophy for terrorists. " A successful attack in Singapore would add a lot of credit to them (because) we are a trophy target" K Shanmugum ST 23 Apr 2011. It crazy and irresponsible keep harping on Singapore being a 'trophy target' for the terrorists. Why tempt fate? To test the capability of the Home Team? Sick!

Oh, a leopard never changes its spots! The game of buying and fixing has started again. Is it "Share and Grow" or "Buy and Fix"?

I thank all the gutsy opposition candidates for their contribution to make Singapore a better place. I'd like to give special mention to Chee Soon Juan for putting all the effort to bring democracy back to Singapore even though he cannot compete in this election, due to being fixed! I'd like to thank him for his Hokkien "yen kang". Yes, the great grandma of my granddaughter was thrilled when she saw it in the computer!

Thank heavens for internet and youtube! Dialect speaking oldies with mobility challenge can now watch rally speeches at home!

HARTAL- 66 Years After

Transcript of Dr Poh's speech available here [Link]

Is it a coincidence that the 50th Anniversary of Operation Cold Store should happen when Singaporeaens feel that they have been buggered by PAP with the 'White PAPer on PAPulation'?

HARTAL: (peaceful complete stoppage of economic activities on a Pan Malayan scale)

After listening to Dr Poh Soo Kai at Hong Lim Park, I now recall my childhood days when my Ah Kong and my Papa told me stories of "Par Kang" (Workers' Strike) and "Pow Tong" (Demonstration) against the Ang Moh Chenghu (English Government) of 1947.

50 years on, after the referendum of 1963 for Malaysia Merger, I now feel like PAP is "beating my mother, my wife and my sisters". Worse, come 2030, my grandchildren will be beaten by them too. In 2030, my grandson may just be "cannon fodder" to defend a Singapore infiltrated by 50% foreigners endorsed by a PAP government.

That is why I am so unhappy and frustrated with what PAP is doing not only to me but to the generations to come.

I'm moved by the speeches made by the Cold Store detainees and I must share the videos above. We must do what we have to do to build a democratic society based on justice and equality. We cannot allow the elitist PAP to continue riding roughshod over us, our children and grandchildren.

While waiting for 2016 to show our colours, we must press on daily to let the uncaring rulers know that all is not well. Enough is enough! The wayang must stop!

While the callous PAP cabinet may not I, as an average Singaporean, am embarrassed by the "belakang pusing" of ministers on the White PAPer on PAPulation" after having sensed the disquiet of the people. On the front page of ST and other media, PAP ministers are featured to come up with crap like:
  • Shanmugum: Paper on Population is "to spur debate" (ST Feb 4);
  • Lee and Khaw: 6.9 million is the worse case scenario (ST don't know when)
So is today 4 Feb 2013 twelve days to HARTAL.v2? [Link]

Transcript of Ms Teo Soh Lung's speech availble here [Link]

ps: If the videos above do not measure up, please pardon the old fogey whose hands are not steady enough to act as a tripod. The smartphone he used to record the event was also too smart for him and the battery dried up before Teo Soh Lung finished her speech. The video of Dr Poh's speech was edited so that he appears to speak continuously in English. In the actual speech, the translation was done in between paragraphs of his speech. If it gets too giddy to watch the video. you may read Dr Poh's speech here.

A Few Good Men

Does it take cruelty to human beings (including founding brothers in arms of PAP) and the selling of one's soul to be a despot?

The last time that I was painfully emotional was when I woke up after a heart attack (and ventricular defibrillation) to be told by the doctor in ICU that one in one thousand may die from being fed Streptokines intravenously! Yes, that's the stuff the doctors used to clear clots in your blood vessels when angiogram wasn't so instantly available 10 years ago. I asked for my wife and kids and hugged and kissed them for dear life before I went for the procedure which lasted for 6 hours (if my memory serves me right). I survived. I'm grateful.

Dr Lim Hock Siew, in his revelation, [you must watch this video!] has created in me the raw emotion that the near death (or death) experience brought me. When I saw him speak in the video by Martyn See [Link], I asked myself of the time God has given Dr Lim Hock Siew, Chia Thye Poh, Lim Chin Siong, Said Zahari, the detainees of Marxist's Conspiracy and many others. Was God responsible for their loss of time and freedom? Or was it a power hungry despot (who aspires to be god) who was responsible?

I've read what's written by JB Jeyaratnam, Francis Seow, Vincent Cheng, Teo Soh Lung [Book Link] and others. I have seen "One Nation Under Lee" [Link]. I have seen Said Zahari's 17 Years video [Link]. They were raw. They were revealing. But to have Dr Lim Hock Siew said what he said in the video is to know and be convinced that "white" ain't that "white" after all.

This is what I saw and heard Dr Lim said of INTEGRITY:
  • I stood firm and had to suffer 2 decades. That's the price I had to pay for Integrity.
  • Where PAP is concerned, "Integrity have to be sustained by the Highest Pay in the World."
  • This is the Immorality of the situation in Singapore today.
That touched my heart, my damaged heart. My broken Singaporean heart!

I believe Dr Lim did not die from the cruel incarceration because his job wasn't done. He had to survive to tell us this.

For what you've been taught in schools; what you have read, seen or heard in msm; what you have read from the Lee Kuan Yew's Memoirs; what you have read from "Men In White" book . . . Fair is fair. It Is Not What It Is until you have seen and heard THIS!

It is men like Lim Hock Siew, Said Zahari, JB Jeyaratnam, Francis Seow and many more including women like Teo Soh Lung who shows us, and put on record, the hidden Singapore story. With a Few Good Men and Women, we now have another version of truth, of Singapore's history before us.

Truth prevails and Truth hurts.

To every life a little rain must fall.

I appreciate and respect Dr Lim and Martyn See for telling it like it is.

Thank you for teaching us some!

How Dare You, Penny? (Part 2)

Author's warning: If you are offended by sexy adjective or adverb, please do not read further. Thank you.
_______________________________________

She fooked up! Then she fook you!

"I was so caught up in the wonderful NDP 2011 and felt so proud of being a Singaporean, that I wanted to capture that moment of pride, at the very tail end of the anthem, to share on FB with my residents. If in my enthusiasm I offended anyone, please accept my apologies. NDP is a time to unite not divide. Majulah Singapura." [Link]

In his "Singaporeans First" National Day Rally Speech 2011, PM Lee asked Singaporeans to be useful and work with him (PAP?) to make Singapore a better place. I'll try to be useful here by sharing on how to say, "I'm sorry" with sincerity! For Fook's sake, why can't his subordinates be humble. Even after having fooked up, they still have to act and sound smart! In so doing, they generate more unhappiness and end up being more despicable!

Why can't she come up with, "It was stupid of me to do what I did. I screwed up. I'm sorry I have offended Singaporeans especially residents of Punggol/Pasir Ris GRC who voted for me. I beg for your pardon." instead of, "If in my enthusiasm I offended anyone, please accept my apologies. NDP is a time to unite not divide. Majulah Singapura." to her supposed remorse.

Hello! Unless you really feel sorry, don't say you are sorry. Just STFU (Shut The Fook Up!) If you are, then apologise sincerely without qualification. If you know you have offended, just admit it. Don't qualify by saying "If I have offended" when you fooking well know that you have seriously offended. When holding the shit end of the stick after fooking up, don't smear shit on others, especially those you have hurt. After having fooked up, how dare you insinuate that others are being divisive, not united.

It is interesting to note that PM Lee mentioned the worst case of the "demanding, rude and self-serving" Singaporean who gave hell to the front-line staff and asked of Singaporeans to be kind and respectful of others, especially civil servants. Maybe PM Lee (jobless after he has his job taken away by a FT) should be standing in the queue for 45 minutes to ask for help to restore the power supply to his house and be told, "Why you again! Still broke, izzit?? What you want now?", he may not have said what he said. There is always two sides to a coin!
There are feedback and there are feedback. Some stories are worth telling but others aren't! Unless one comes off the ivory tower and walks the ground on a regular basis, one would never know the sentiments of the average Singaporean Joe, Ali, Ah Seng or Muthu. Just like Patrick (son of Tony Tan) may not know what "Chiong Pengkang Hill at night is all about when live bullets were fired by your Section mates who could not run straight"!

Bloggers (anonymous or not), concerned Singaporeans, who have the guts to question and voice alternative views and not accept the PAP's status quo are accused of being "daft", "rocking the boat", "divisive", 'disloyal" and "noise in the environment" belonging to the "lunatic fringe".

If not for the technology and internet; if not for the "daft bloggers", the "boat rockers", the "disloyal and divisive noise makers" and the "lunatics in the fringe", we, Singaporeans would still be thinking that Teo Soh Lung, Vincent Cheng & Co. were Marxist Conspirators. We would not have known how much JB Jeyaratnam, Tang Liang Hong and Chee Soon Juan has/had suffered, We would not have known of the freedom lost by Chia Thye Poh (31 years) Lim Hock Siew (19 years) and Said Zahari (17 years) amongst others! [Link].

In my last blog I wrote, "Right is right and wrong is wrong. Though victor can write history, truth will always prevail!" The skeletons are coming out of the cabinet and very soon with the fortitude and revelation of ex-detainees like Dr Lim Hock Siew, Said Zahari, Teo Soh Lung, Vincent Cheng and others, we will know if the "few good men" were actually evil.

We live. We learn. The link on Dr Ang Swee Chye by Singapore Rebel has taught me more.

Prisoner of the State

The following on Zhao Ziyang's Prisoner of State is extracted from UK Telegraph. [link]

"By insisting on my view of the student demonstrations and refusing to accept the decision to crack down with force, I knew what the consequences would be and what treatment I would receive. Mentally, I was fully prepared, I knew that if I persistently upheld my view, I would ultimately be compelled to step down. If I wanted to keep my position, or give up my post in some face-saving way, I would have to
give up my viewpoint and conform. If I persisted, then I had to be prepared to step down."

Zhao Ziyang on explaining his opposition to Deng Xiaoping:

"I had no other choice but to express my views to Deng personally, in a face-to-face meeting. Since I had asked for a personal meeting with Deng, only to have Deng call for a full Standing Committee meeting at his home, I realised that things had already taken a bad turn.

"I expressed my views roughly as follows: 'The situation with the student demonstrations has worsened, and has grown extremely grave. Students, teachers, journalists, scholars and even some government staff have taken to the streets in protest. Today there were approximately 300,000 to 400,000 people. Quite a large number of workers and peasants are also sympathetic. Besides the hot issues of corruption and government transparency, the main impetus for all these different social groups is that they want an explanation for how the Party and the government can be so coldhearted in the face of hunger-striking students, doing nothing to try to save them... If the hunger strike continues and some people die, it will be like gasoline poured over a flame. If we take a confrontational stance with the masses, a dangerous situation could ensue in which we lose complete control.'

"While I was expressing my view, Deng appeared very impatient and displeased.

"In the end, Deng Xiaoping made the final decision. He said: 'Since there is no way to back down without the situation spiralling completely out of control, the decision is to move troops into Beijing and impose martial law'."

Zhao Ziyang on the Tiananmen massacre:

"On the night of June 3, while sitting in the courtyard with my family, I heard intense gunfire. A tragedy to shock the world had not been averted, and was happening after all."

Zhao Ziyang on being purged:

"Cultural Revolution-style tactics that had been condemned and abandoned long ago were taken up to be used against me. These tactics included inundating the newspapers with critical articles making me out to be an enemy, and casual disregard of my personal freedoms.

"After June 4, they entirely disregarded these rules [drawn up at the 12th Party Congress to prevent the Cultural Revolution from ever occurring again] in their treatment of me, instead openly violating them and reassuming the ultra-left tactics of the Cultural Revolution. This was something I had not anticipated."

Zhao Ziyang on the West:

"It is the Western parliamentary democratic system that has demonstrated the most vitality. This system is currently the best one available. It is able to manifest the spirit of democracy and meet the demands of a modern society.

"If a country wishes to modernise, not only should it implement a market economy, it must also adopt a parliamentary democracy as its political system. Otherwise, this nation will not be able to have a market economy that is healthy and modern, nor can it become a modern society with a rule of law."

Zhao Ziyang on political reform:

"If we don't move toward this goal, it will be impossible to resolve the abnormal conditions in China's market economy: issues such as an unhealthy market, profiting from power, rampant social corruption and a widening gap between rich and poor. Nor will the rule of law ever materialise.

"If the final destination is a parliamentary democracy, the ruling Party must achieve two breakthroughs. One is to allow other political parties and a free press to exist. This can happen gradually, but it must be pursued. The second breakthrough is having democracy within the Party: that is, the Party needs to adopt democratic procedures and use democratic means to reform itself ... Different opinions must be allowed to exist, and different factions should be made legitimate."

Will some wisdoms from the book (if applied in Singapore, like honest to goodness press freedom, stop political bullying and gerrymandeering), do our nation good too?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The book 'Prisoner of State" was also reported by Peh Shing Huei and appeared on top half of the front page of Part B 'World' section of the Straits Times today. With the help of ST's positioning, I'm sure 'Prisoner of State' will sell millions.
If only books like "Dark Clouds at Dawn" by Said Zahari, "Our Thoughts Are Free" and "That We May Dream" by Teo Soh Lung, Vincent Cheng & Victims of 'Marxist Conspiracy' were featured with the same prominence in Straits Times, I bet Singaporeans will be more politically aware and better informed.
I wonder if Lim Cheng Siong, Chia Thye Poh, Said Zahari, Teo Soh Lung, Vincent Cheng and other victims of the 'Marxist Conspiracy' were also 'Prisoners of the State' because they refused to betray their principles and core values.
Based on Justice and Equality?
Right is right and wrong is wrong. Or is it?
Sistic got fooked, I mean fined, so did some modeling agencies for price fixing.
Is taxi company like ComfortDelgro (part of NTUC?) capable of price fixing? Who knows?
Interrupting his physiotherapy, Lee Kuan Yew said in Parliament [Youtube Link] that our National Pledge is nothing but an aspiration. If that is so, is justice and equality in Singapore just an aspiration?
Different folks . . . different strokes!
Do we do the time for our crime?
Or do we only get punished for who we are not and who we are not affiliated to?
But what is criminal in Singapore? Could it be a 'noisy cowboy' [Link] who blogs with heart?
Read the following and you may have a thought worth pondering.
In the 80's, the so-called Marxists Conspirators including Vincent Cheng and Teo Soh Lung [Link] were detained under ISA.
"SINGAPORE: The Internal Security Department (ISD) has arrested an ex-lecturer whom it said had made plans to pursue "militant jihad" in Afghanistan. Abdul Basheer s/o Abdul Kader, 28, was arrested in February this year, said a Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) statement on Friday. He is a "self-radicalised Singaporean", said the statement." [Link] This happened in 2007.
As recent as last year, 20-year-old full-time NSman Muhammad Fadil Abdul Hamid was detained under ISA for being "self-radicalised" [Link]
Just who the fook (in ISD or anywhere else) decides who deserves to be detained and who does not? Just who deserve the slammer, solitary confinement and torture? [Link]
With the sensitive race/religion hullabaloo on Jason Neo, Christian Eliab Ratnam and Donaldson Tan, I wonder the outcome and fate of the 3 facebookists? For what they did, will they end up like Muhammad Fadil Abdul Hamid and/or Abdul Basheer s/o Abdul Kader?
Or will they end up with just a slap on the wrist just because it's been claimed that someone said that Islam is a "venomous religion" [Link].
So does Justice and Equality apply to Who We Are and Who We Are Affiliated To . . . or What We Did? (or did not do as in the Marxists' Conspiracy?)
HARD TRUTHS - Too Hard To Swallow
The end of the dragon year brings forth much changes and excitement.
Aljunied Hougang Town Council led to AIMgate.
Palmergate led to WP's Lee Li Lian winning Punggol East by 54%
PAP's White Paper on Population led to furore in Singapore over the 7 million in 2030.
Which will lead to 16 February's 'ZoukOut' at Hong Lim Park at 4.30pm!
Surprisingly, out of the blue, a huge crowd gathered at 4pm today 2nd February 2013 at Hong Lim Park to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Operation Cold Store where more than a hundred were arrested under ISA on 2 February 1963.
Chia Thye Poh, Lim Hock Siew, Said Zahari, Poh Soo Kai and many others were incarcerated for decades for their courage and fortitude in not selling their integrity and honour to a bully. Their steadfastness in refusing to succumb to the wishes of a cruel political megalomaniac deserves respect and admiration from Singaporeans and many who are not kiasu, kiasi, kiachenghu and kiaqui.
Having celebrated 'live' the winning of WP's Lee Li Lian at the coffeeshop in Hougang [Link] exactly one week ago, my damaged heart races again this afternoon at Hong Lim Park listening to these elderly gentlemen recounting the years of cruelty inflicted upon them and their loved ones. They lost many years of their youthful life being incarcerated by a sly and wicked despot.
Mr Tan Kok Fang
Mr Michael Fernandez [Link]
Mr Chng Min Oh
Mr Lee Tee Tong
Many of us also heard from Dr Poh Soo Kai and Teo Soh Lung who was incarcerated in the 80's as a "Marxist Conspirator". (I will post their videos tomorrow).
HORMAT! From the bottom of my heart, I bow to the these Bravehearts not only for the sacrifice of years taken away from them; the hurt and sufferings they and their loved ones bear but more so for their courage to speak up and write of the suffering they went through. To teach Singaporeans and let the whole world know that Singapore may have been better place today if such atrocities were not committed against them.
Many paid $10,000 for one man's 'hard truths' and autograph. It's too rich for my blood and the "truths' may be too 'hard' for me to swallow.
I'm elated to be the proud owner of the book, Fajar Generation, autographed by a political prisoner who sacrificed 17 years of his life refusing to be cowered by a sly political bully whose ill deeds are revealed in The Fajar Generation.
I did not have to pay $10,000 for this treasure. While Dr Poh Soo Kai so kindly signed the book before he spoke, I also received a warm handshake and a loving smile from him when I asked him about the Questions and Answers Session he had at KL recently (video below)  after his speech.
Saying "Mad Mullahs" and writing “I would say today, we can integrate all religions and races except Islam.[Link] shows that even mother time cannot change the essence of a man. How sad.
Dr Poh's comrades like Dr Lim Hock Siew has passed on and it is the voice of our elders who are still alive who will tell the "Real Truths" from the "Hard Truths"
I will post the video that I took this afternoon in my next blog.
Have a beautiful Sunday!
Marxists' Conspiracy: Vincent Cheng Speaks.
"Around the world and especially in Asia at that time, Catholic social action flourished. Philippines was a case in point. Because the churches played a big role in the overthrow of the dictator Marcos, the Singapore government feared a similar experience would take place here. Several church organisations and catholic priests were targeted and warned. The final onslaught came with the use of the Internal Security Act to unleash Operation Spectrum in a massive exercise called the Marxists' Conspiracy."
Vincent Cheng, alleged marxists' conspiracy leader in his enlightening speech at Speakers' Corner, Hong Lim Park on 25 Sept 2010.
Vincent Cheng was denied the opportunity to speak at the National Library [Link]. At long last, at Hong Lim Park last evening, I get the chance to listen to him relating his traumatic experience of being a victim of Operation Spectrum, serving 3 years of imprisonment and solitary confinement as an alleged leader of a Marxists' Conspiracy.
Below is what I extracted from his speech:
"People asked me, 'How come then that the government is able to unveil such a long list of your subversive activities. 'My truthful answer is: Because the ISD tortured me to confess what they wanted to hear. I was arrested at 5am on the 21st of May 1987. Having only had 3 hours of sleep before the ISD came to my house. I was interrogated in an extremely cold room deprived of sleep for days, verbally abused, assaulted with slaps on my face and beatings on my chest and back and a knock-out punch to my abdomen."
"Before the assault, I firmly stood my ground refusing to be intimidated. After the assault, I succumbed and allowed them to make me into a docile puppet writing and signing long texts of self-incriminating lies and half-facts. When I was made to appear on television to confess my activities, I quietly protested by changing my hairstyle to that of Lee Kuan Yew's."
"How can I be rehabilitated to a lie? You can only be rehabilitated to the truth."
"But let us not forget the hundreds of other ISA detainees who who have suffered much much more without the chance of seeking redress especially those who have gone to their grave in a blanket of silence. We who are still alive owe them the duty to seek out the truth and accordingly proclaim their contribution to the true history of Singapore."
He ended his speech by saying, "We must fight for the abolishment of ISA. If we do not redress history, history will repeat itself. The first step toward redress if for victim to open their mouth, or to pick up their pen. Victims have kept silent for too long. It is time to stand up for our human right. Thank You."
With Dr Lim Hock Siew's speech [Link] and "
Beyond the Blue Gate: Recollection of a Political Prisoner" by Teo Soh Lung and the above revelation by Vincent Cheng, we are seeing more and more skeletons falling off the stinking cabinet.
"We who are still alive owe them the duty to seek out the truth and accordingly proclaim their contribution to the true history of Singapore."
Thank you Mr Vincent Cheng for your courage in speaking up on the injustice and for teaching us some.
And thank you SDP and Chee Soon Juan for organising the event.
Hopefully we may see the video soon here or here
Is it tIme for Ignoramus, Blatant Liar to Defend his Integrity Again?
Dr Lim Hock Siew while paying tribute to fellow detainee Mr Tan Jing Quee called presidential candidate Tony Tan an "ignoramus or blatant liar!" Dr Lim was detained for 19 years as a political opponent under ISA.
When asked of his defamation suit against Tang Liang Hong [Link], Tony Tan said recently that he had to protect his good name and integrity. In so doing, he and his demolition team (including LKY, GCT, LHL and TCH) bankrupted Tang Liang Hong and forced him to flee to Johore and later to Australia. JB Jeyaratnam was also badly hurt financially and politically in this episode.
If Tony Tan had realised the quagmire he is in now, would he have put up his name for this Presidential Election? The revelation of the whiter-than-white-12-year-disruption (AWOL?) of his son Patrick's National Service has brought contempt and cynicism to his integrity. The accusation of him being responsible for the losses in GIC is painful. The boos and heckle he received at the nomination centre [Link] for what he represents cannot be music to his ears. Being called an 'Ignoramous', worse still, a 'Blatant Liar' by Dr Lim must give him sleepless nights. Should he sue Dr Lim, I'm sure judges in court will be losing sleep too. No decent judge with a conscience (and wants to keep his job) would like to adjudicate this case!
As much as the members in power wish to rubbish and treat alternative voices as nothing more than "noise in the environment", political detainees like Tan Jing Quee, Said Zahari, Dr Poh Soo Kai, [his speech in 1975 Link] Dr Lim Hock Siew and younger victims like Teo Soh Lung and Vincent Cheng (amongst many others) have bravely come forward to state their case (in books, videos and audios) of how their freedom, dignity and rights were stripped from them. I salute their courage for enlightening us on the cruelty inflicted upon them.
With the latest bullying of Workers' Party by PA and HDB on the use of public areas [Link], reasonable Singaporeans are getting more and more agitated by such unfair practices. It is very sad that after apologising and preaching unity and urging Singaporeans to be as one, PM Lee Hsien Loong would allow PA and HDB to practise such self-serving and disgusting acts!
In every National Day Rally speech we are told and encouraged to work as one, heal the drift and do our part in unifying Singapore. In one fell swoop, we now know that the such politically correct speeches are nothing more than wayang. Unfortunately, the "fixing and the buying" style of Lee Hsien Loong is still alive and kicking! It may no be his doings, but his cronies and lapdogs in PA and HDB are creating "gridlocks" to the detriment of solidarity in Singapore.
Lately, anti -government movements seem fashionable. Arab Spring is sweeping the Middle East. Egypt, Syria and even Gaddafi's Libya is cracking up. In China where dissent can be met by tanks and beheading, the Jasmine movement is still palpable. Fortunately, Singaporeans are peaceful and are not into violent riots. Instead of taking up arms and rioting, those that are disillusioned by PAP's repulsive bullying peacefully voted for opposition in May 2011. To pay back the PA and HDB for disgustingly violating the use of taxpayers' money to suck up to PAP, they will peacefully vote for a People's President with a Heart that is not tainted by the PAP on 27 August 2011!
Presidential Candidates Review
If it is already part of the Constitution, why is there still so much confusion over the role of the Singapore President? My understanding is the Elected Presidency was primarily initiated to prevent a rogue government from using the past reserves of Singapore. To me it means, providing check and balance to prevent the government from taking advantage of its people for its own benefit.
With such confusion aided by the comments from the Law Minister, I humbly suggest that the parliament go back to the drawing board to make sense of what the EP is all about. If not, the embarrassment will reappear before every Presidential Election!
Now let's take a good look at the picture above. Remember the old school troublemaker who bullied everyone but was never caught? Remember the bully sitting behind you. He kept hitting you on your head during class while the teacher was not watching. He continued to irritate you with his knocks even though you quietly turn around to tell him don't. Worse, he cocked you a snook with a snigger. When you've had enough of his bullying and turned around to confront him, he yelled, "Teacher, teacher . . " In the eyes of the teacher, you end up being the culprit instead of him. While you were being punished, he made you more "tulan" (fookin' mad with anger) by having the smug look on his face. Does the face of Tony Tan above reminds you of the bully that you had to deal with? And yes, Viswa looks like the teacher and poor Tan Jee Say, the poor innocent you, asking for fair play and justice!
So let's watch this video [Link]!
How does one vote for a president? Unless one is related to or know a candidate personally, how is one to judge the character, the ability and integrity of a candidate. Does one judge each candidate and vote for him based on the following factors?
  1. His Connection/Affiliation
  2. His Track record
  3. His Ability to carry himself well (Appearance and Mannerism including the ability to speak well)
  4. His Sharpness
  5. Our Perception of his Honesty/Integrity
  6. Our Perception of his Trustworthiness
  7. Our Perception of his Courage
  8. Our Perception of his Care and Concern for his fellow citizens
I guess one's decision also depends on one's gut feel.
It is good that we no longer need to depend only on SPH and MediaCorp to find out what we need to know to make an informed decision. We have Singapore Window, The Online Citizen, Temasek Review Emeritus, Singapore Daily and many others to help us know better. I believe if not for the advent of internet, ex-Foreign Minister George Yeo and his team may not have lost Aljunied GRC!
Based on the factors above and the video I have watched, I will not vote for Tony Tan. I will encourage my friends and relatives not to vote for him too. The reasons are simple:
  1. Morally and mortally, he cannot provide the 'check and balance' as he will be checking on himself. He is the immediate past Vice Chairman and Managing Director of GIC.
  2. He is related to the Lee Family [Link]
  3. He wasn't forthcoming in answering the special treatment his son Patrick received while doing NS and ICT. 12 years disruption of National Service sounds like AWOL to me! [Link Pt 1], [Link Pt 2 ] and [Link Pt 3]
  4. His constant threat of impending financial crisis and how as president he can solve the crisis sounds cheap. If he cares so much for Singapore and Singaporeans, he should have stayed as DPM and not quit the cabinet. He quit the Cabinet not once but twice!
  5. When asked if political detention is justified, I find his comparison of Norwegian Andre Brevik to Teo Soh Lung and Vincent Cheng (plus 20 other alleged Marxist Conspirators) distasteful! His shiftiness in answering a straight question shows the man that he is.
  6. While mainstream medium plasters Tan Jee Say for his 'outburst', no decent medium has the guts to slap Tony Tan for his lack of decorum and rudiment of good manners. Since when is it decent to interrupt and threaten someone when someone is given the floor to speak?
  7. The PAP 'group think' in Tony Tan is impossible to erase. Try as I might, I cannot see another Ong Teng Cheong in Tony Tan. My gut feel tells me Tony just doesn't have the essence that President Ong Teng Cheong possessed.
Whatever reasons each has to run for President, only each knows. The rest are mere speculations. Only Tony Tan knows why he quit his comfortable GIC and SPH positions to run for President. In so doing, he had his son's special treatment in NS exposed and has himself and his wife booed for what he represents!
Speculation . . . . . . . Could it be that Tony has to go for the presidency to further the opaqueness of our sovereign wealth funds? To ensure that the stink and skeletons remain where they are and not leaked to the "unconnected" and the public at large?
Meanwhile let's hope that the Establishment will not do a Tang Liang Hong on Tan Jee Say. If they do, we are fooked, big time!
Fancy T-shirts bring jail time.
I'd like to thank secretpoliticalblog for featuring this picture that I have been searching for. Having read their article with the relevant links,
I'm pleased to note that bloggers are still blogging even after we have been threatened so by a Mintster,
"Anonymity in cyberspace is an illusion. You will remember in 2007, we prosecuted three persons under the Sedition Act because of the blogs they put up which denigrated the religion of one of our communities in Singapore.
"The reason we did that was to send the message that your words have an impact; if need be, we can identify you, and if we have to, we will be prepared to prosecute you."
Read here.
This "Dearest Minister Mentor God Lee Kuan Yew" blog by singaporecitizen (read here) adds to the reason why we are progressing as a nation "to build a democratic society based on justice and equality so as to achieve happiness and progress for our nation".
Much as we have been warned by the "kiasu", "kiasi" and the balls carrying "kia chenghu" that alternative views lead you to prison and/or bankruptcy and we'd better let sleeping dogs lie, I believe that:
  • Mr JB Jeyaratnam is honoured and well respected by many Singaporeans for his contribution towards democracy and nation building.
  • Mr Chee Soon Juan and his sister Sok Chin though bankrupted still do much to show Singapore and the whole world that there is more to bully and intimidation to extinguish the fire for human rights and democracy.
  • Mr Martyn See (read here and video here) with his courage and persistence has shown us truth (some wish that's best buried than to belittle the rich and powerful) is instrumental in making history speaks for all. The vanquished may have more credible story than the victor.
  • The light will shine and truth will be told for Mr Chia Thye Poh, Mr Said Zahari, Mr Tan Wah Peow, Mr Francis Seow, Mr Tang Liang Hong, Ms Teo Soh Lung & Mr Vincent Cheng & Co (of the Marxist Conspiracy) when more are willing to share the truth without fear or favour.
  • Singapore will evolve. The power that is can no longer remain complacent and treat Singaporeans as frogs-in-the-well. With cyberspace, alternative views are available and msm no longer hold the trump card of being the only source of news and propaganda.
Having read secretpoliticalblog, the only comment I wish to add is unless we witness or hear the proceedings of the court presided by Belinda Ang, we will never know if it's kangaroo or donkey or what have you. To judge for yourself, please visit here and other transcripts available in cyberspace.
Kangaroo in a court or judge in a zoo? It's your call.
8 Days to " Say No to 6.9M"
Dear readers,
I would appreciate if you read the comments written in this link and this link Not so much on what I wrote but more on what was written by the readers. The anonymous commentators 'do good in secret' what every Singaporean should do this 16 of February 2013.
Anonymously, without declaring who we are, we should just be there in Hong Lim Park at 4.30pm, come rain or shine, thunder or even lightning, to register our frustration at the way PAP rides roughshod over us. You should not worry as the faces of Singaporeans in this video [Link] shows what human rights and democracy is about and what Singapore should be. It is about the right for us to take a stand, to show our joy in doing what is right for our country and our loved ones without fear!
The fear that some Singaporeans have about offending PAP is so ridiculous. Try this:
In a crowded hawker centre or food court, find a table occupied by others with one or two seats still vacant. Ask politely to share the table. After sitting yourself down, say, "Hey, thanks for the seat. Do you think PAP sucks?" The first thing you notice is that the occupants will turn their heads, look behind their shoulders to see if any "PAP ghosts' are around. If you are lucky, they may share their like minded thoughts with you. More often than not, they'd think that you are a crazy nutcase on a path of self destruction. They would then excuse themselves or finish eating as fast as possible to get away from you. Ahem, this is one cool way of clearing seats for your friends in our damned overcrowded hawker centre and food court when you wish to eat at the same table with your friends and colleagues during lunch hour. Try it.
I'm feedmetothefish. I'm just fishfood after I die. I have with the consent of my children and the approval of my wife and my mother (I would have seek my Papa's permission if he is still alive) will that when I die, my children should not put my cremated remains into any urn nor rent a condo in any columbarium to crowd out the little Singapore that we have. Just throw my ashes to the sea and feedmetothefish. A few years ago, when I sent off a dear buddy who walked off before me, we took a boat ride from Pasir Panjang jetty costing $500 for his sea burial. With inflation, I wonder how much PSA would charge for the service when my time comes.
Though I'm anonymous to my readers, I'm sure the power that is knows who I am. Those who love and care for me ask if I'm pushing the envelope too far in blogging the way I do. After reading books written by political detainees like Teo Soh Lung [Link] and Dr Poh Soo Kai [Link1] and Tan Wah Piow [Link2], they worry that "accident" may happen to me or I may be hauled up by ISD in the early morning hours or be slapped with a lawyer's letter for defaming some millionaire PAP politicians.
A couple of my friends in the legal fraternity who care and love me enough took the effort to pass my wife and kids their contact numbers just in case something untoward happens to me. I am most grateful for their kindness, foresight and protection.
If you live the life that I lived, if you love your kids and grandkids the way I love mine, you will do what I do, telling it like it is without fear or favour... and be at Hong Lim Park on 16 Feb 2013.
With PAP's plan to add another 1.7 million people over the next 17 years to make it 7 million by 2030 in Singapore, I cannot, for the life of me, do nothing to protect my offsprings and their children from being raped by a government who cares not for the interests of Singaporeans but their own GDP figures that correspond with their salaries and their political longevity.
On Saturday, 16 February 2013 at 4.30pm, I must be there together with those I love and those who love me at Hong Lim Park to register our contempt for a PAP government devoid of responsibility, sincerity and human kindness.They are neither fair nor just in their governance. As I so often mentioned, the day PAP ministers paid themselves millions, they made a mockery of national service. Not unlike mercenaries, they appear to be serving themselves more than they serve the people.
Dear readers, I need your courage, love and compassion to be with me and my children and grandchildren on 16 February 2013 at Hong Lim Park so that they will have a Singapore in 2030 that they can live with pride, love, joy and dignity. Otherwise, they will be trampled by foreigners who will despise us for the reckless stupidity committed by an irresponsible PAP Government originating from the White Paper of 2013!
Thank you.
COUNTDOWN:
8 days more to 16 Feb 2013 : HARTAL.v2 -"SAY NO TO 6.9M" ZoukOut at Hong Lim Park at 4.30pm
Dear readers,
Bitching, talking, blogging and forwarding emails and is not enough.
KEEP SINGAPORE CLEAN (BERSEH)!
My extended family and I will be there.
Will you?
Please forward this plea to all your friends and relatives so that with peace and humility we can show the arrogant PAP government that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Now it's God's fault?
S Ramesh reported in Today online: S'poreans expect everything to be perfect, but some things are 'an act of God' [Link]
HE said:
We are daft
We are complacent
We are champion grumblers
We need to have spurs stuck to our hide, and now
We expect everything to be perfect. . .
These are derogatory description of citizens of '1st World Singapore' governed by creme de la creme PAP leaders.
We were at fault when we did not "stop at 2". Now an additional 100,000 foreigners is needed this year to compete with locals for jobs and fight for space to squeeze in buses and trains. Soon, very soon, we may have to fight tooth over nail for the air that we breathe!
Congratulations! It's not our fault. I'm glad that Singaporeans are not being blamed for causing the flood. It's the act of God, he said. God may be responsible for the rain but I doubt God is responsible for the freak(ing) flood.
MM Lee said, "whatever we do when we get extraordinary rains like we had recently, no amount of engineering can prevent flooding." Pardon me, but aren't we paying the best brains for extraordinary performances? Or are we paying through our noses just to prevent our mothers, wives and daughters from being maids in other countries?
I know PAP ministers are not gods but if they act like gods and are paid like gods, they had better perform like gods instead of blaming God for heavy rain and fallen trees!
Are they so omnipotent that being honest, transparent and taking responsibility for screw-ups is considered a human weakness? Or is it their culture to come out with silly statement like "PUB has completed the investigation of the flood incident at Orchard Road. The investigation found that the flood was caused by an intense storm"? [Link] Or, as usual, wait for the leederest of the leaders to come up with some high falutin' comment to shut the case up so that everybody else can STFU and move on?
Yes, those embarrassing news keep piling up. . . showing "the power that is" may not be as powerful as the power that actually is. Is this an omen of something more sinister to come?
  1. The flood that's caused by the perfect storm [Link]
  2. The hullabaloo on the video of Martyn See on Dr Lim Hock Siew's speech [Link]
  3. The popularity of political prisoner Teo Soh Lung's book "Beyond the Blue Gate"
  4. The detention (without trial) of an NSman who's been alleged to be self-radicalised [Link]
  5. The arrest of author Alan Shadrake, author of Once a Jolly Hangman [Link]
  6. The increasing number of falling trees that kill [Link]
  7. The photographer who got handcuffed by police for taking embarrassing pictures of flood
  8. The unhappiness of a rear admiral who was trapped by the flood in Telok Kurau [Link]
  9. The effort of lawyer M Ravi taking on Law Mintster Shanmugum and the judiciary to save the life of 22-year-old Yong Vui Kong [Link]
Will all these lead to a perfect storm that may rain on our parade at Padang on National Day of August 9?
God knows.
