NATCON: Is the Charm Offensive Working?

Is the concentrated attempt by the ruling party to gain favour or respectability by conspicuously cooperative or obliging behaviour through NATCON working?

Is the wayang going to win more votes for the PAP in 2016?

Is the vouchers announced by PM Lee for the NSmen an appreciation for their sacrifice or another means to gain favour and win future votes?

In the same way that ministers in PAP need to be incentivised with humongous salary do NSMen need to be motivated with the measly vouchers?

I did my NS in 1969 to 1971 and did my 'saikang' thereafter as a reservist not only in SAF but also in SCDF when they were short of manpower!  I'm proud that my track record of the good ole days were not tainted by any vouchers or other demeaning form of buying my integrity in cash or kind.

Damn those who think that born and bred Singaporean NSMen are so cheap that their loyalty and integrity can be bought by vouchers!

We, especially the old soldiers, do not need vouchers to turn us on! We need sincerity of men with integrity to lead us on. We do not need NATO (No Action Talk Only) leaders who at one time apologised and promised that immigration of foreigners will be controlled but in less than a year said that a population of 6 million is sustainable!

With leader who do not mean what they say and say what they mean, is Singapore going to the dogs?

Maybe that's why there are no more Singaporeans in Singapore! Those who have the means emigrate. Those who don't, just roll over and play dead and cannot be bothered because their voices are treated as contempt, as 'noise' by the rulers. Or have Singaporeans just walk into the sunset and say, "Goodbye cruel world!" Because they have had enough of the insincerity of the leaders who keep saying one thing but doing another and come up with crumbs just to put papselves in a good light!

Is there no more truth, sincerity and grace in Singapore?

Is Singapore just a playground for the rich and powerful to F1 and casino and park their money?

Is Singapore so dead that with all the truths that are told and questions asked by alternative voices (eg. transparency in CPF, HDB, GIC and Temasek Holdings) the power that is is still pretending not to listen and putting wool over our eyes?

And maybe there are no more Chinese in China, no more Indians in India and nor more Filipinos in Philippines. Because they are all in Singapore!

And for the crazies who are having an orgasm now building more and more HDB flats at devastating prices, we are going to be gridlocked soon . . . very very soon, starting with Punggol!

They brought the people in without preparing the houses. Now they build houses without preparing the roads and transport facilities!

When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

You said those I wanted to say. At an age coming to 40, we feel a sense of helplessness, a sense of insult, a sense of fading identity.

At best, we roll-over and play dead. And as day goes by, it makes us feeling more sure each day that the the leadership is faking while cannibalizing on the people's psyche.

Singapore is at a cross-road. We have to realize that ourselves. The young are always so naive and naturally they are the main target focus for NATCON sweet-talks and con-ship to get their first buy-in. Ultimately, they have more voting chances than us to go.

RE: We are going to be gridlocked soon in Punggol becos they forgot roads and transport facilities.

AHAHAHAHA Punggol isn't the first area to have basic infrastructure problems due to lack of foresight. It happened in Sengkang too. It's happening in Serangoon and Jurong now. Hey, its on the PIE, ECP, KPE, BKE...

And Vivian B had the cheek to claim his party looks waaaay ahead, anticipates things.

Hey Viv, what foresight is to you brilliant higher mortals is Hindsight to the rest of us.

yep, we served the army, and the worst is that our govt willingly allowed foreigners to invade our shores, and our population is now 5 mil. Let us make integration of foreign talent complete by making them serve NS and give them $100.

Agree with the suggestion of foreigners doing NS. Start with the many scholars studying free here. This its the best way for them to show their gratitude. Rather than giving them employment after their graduation.

What inadequate housing are you talking about?

I live in Tanglin.
What infrastructure problem in Punggol and Sengkang are you talking about?

Are we talking about Singapore?

Fish,
the PAP and their supporters wank themselves and expect the rest in SinCity to pretend they are also having an orgasm...that's my take on the NATCON.

Those pathetic NSmen vouchers ! To think that our 2.5 years of NS is worth only a pittance ? I'll throw them back at their faces. They'll probably restrict its use to the SAFRA Clubhouses. Beware NSmen, I went to the new clubhouse in Toa Payoh, and the prices there are fooking ridiculous. If you think that they built these clubhouses to recognise NSmen, think again. With such riduculous prices, you are better off eating elsewhere. i would have expected them to heavily subsidise rentals so that these operators can offer lower prices to NSmen, in recognition of their contribution to the country. I was sorely disappointed ! This is another money making venture. They even want to squeeze money out of NSmen, men who sacrificed the prime years of their lives defending the country !

We were among the first cohort of NS men. We were the guinea pigs. Our pay was $60 a month - we were cheap then, and still cheap now with their $50 vouchers. But with inflation, your money can last 10 times longer then. To hell with this ungrateful cheng hu.

The trains and roads are already in gridlock. Our CPF is gridlocked too, as are the GIC and Temasek Holdings money, and property prices and cost of living. I shudder to think what will happen when the population hits 6 million or more. The only thing that can save us is to have a recession, to have a property bubble burst, to wake some sense in these leeders and the 60%. Or wait for 2016.

Please mind your singlish.

"pasar" means market.
"pasal' means business.

It's "U die your pasal"

I do not think they have learned anything and are still treating Singaporeans as daft and dumb.

All this time, when Singaporeans are grumbling about expensive HDB flats and affordability, the topic is always diverted to how many flats they are building and how they are tackling the issue. Affordability is never discussed in sincerity and how couples planning to marry and how they and their children are going to be able to afford a home.

If they cannot tackle this issue, I don't see how they can ever solve the problem of low fertility. All the talk about trying to promote work balance and all that shit in the hope of getting Singaporeans to procreate is an exercise in futility. They never learned anything after all these years. Just using the same tactic can never work.

I was arguing with my parents. My parents worship this gov and watched only Channel 8 (although we do subscript to Cable TV) every night. They believe everything the News and Shit Times say. And yes, they vote for PAP in every election. They are in their 60s, what can I do about them?

Sorry, I meant 'subscribe'.

From improving your grades in school to your play on the soccer field to just kicking back and having a good time, online games have so much to offer! In this article, we share ideas to help you find great games and rise in your gaming levels.

Don't let gaming consume your life. Too much video games can be unhealthy. You need to be sure that you do other activities too. Video Games can be addictive, so just make sure that you moderate your usage.

When possible, download and try demos of games to determine if you actually like it. You can find out if you will even like the game play. Although, it is good to exercise caution when downloading demos. Be sure you only download from well-known websites to avoid computer issues.

Make sure that you stay hydrated when playing online games for long periods of time. It's okay to escape for a while with a game--that's what their main purpose is--but some people take it too far and get so involved in gaming that they don't drink water or other drinks regularly. Becoming dehydrated is dangerous, which is why you need to remember to drink plenty of water when playing.

Be careful when it comes to playing online games. You will sometimes have to pay monthly fees in order to gain access. If you have a child who wants to join an online-gaming site, then you should check it out first. Find out if there are any fees, and if so, whether the game is worth it.

Learn all you can about the gaming console's content and safety settings. There is usually a setting to keep young children from accessing potentially inappropriate content. The most advanced systems will even give you the option to customize the settings for each user like a computer would.

You can go to sleep when you are dead! This common myth is believed by gamers and is also propagated by online websites which claim to provide good gaming tips . Completely false! A person needs a full 8 hours to keep their body healthy.

The Nintendo Wii system is a useful tool to help you get into shape. There are a large number of fitness games available for the Wii system.

Chat functions ought to be disabled entirely when young kids are involved. No younger child should have this type of communication. If you're not able to disable chat features on a game, don't purchase that game at all. Speak with someone familiar with the game before making a purchase.

All games have ratings thanks to the ESRB. Games are appropriate for ages 3 and older if they receive an EC or Early Childhood rating. If your children are six and older, a rating of E is appropriate. A rating of E+10 is for people older than 10 years old. If your game is rated T, it is suggested that you be 13 or older to play it. "M" (mature) rated games are for people who are at least 17 years old. AO indicates the game is just for adults and RP signifies "Rating Pending."

Figure out how to operate the safety and parental controls of any gaming system that comes into your home. You can likely make adjustments that keep kids from viewing mature content. Some allow each gaming profile to be customized separately, allowing adults to enjoy games not meant for younger audiences.

Online gaming were there in the past, they're here in the present, and they will be there in the future. It is unbelievable to see their evolution. It is astounding to think of what the future may hold. So much fun to thing about it and imagine all the possibilities of future games.
