Did Alan Shadrake scandalize the judiciary in Singapore with "Once A Jolly Hangman - Singapore Justice In The Dock"? Having read the book, I don't think so.
I would have thought that previous political cases involving JB Jeyaratnam, Tang Liang Hong and Chee Soon Juan affect the credibility of the system more than the book written by Alan Shadrake? In fact, the case of the Kangaroo Trio who were jailed for appearing in court wearing Roo's T-Shirts makes a greater mockery of the judiciary. [

With the British Foreign Minister being dismayed by the sentencing [

Link], we now learn that another funny thing happened in the
Zoo, court house. The Attorney-General Office has offered not to contest if Alan Shadrake seek leave of jurisdiction. What is "seek leave of jurisdiction"? Does it mean:
- Shadrake can leave Singapore without serving the jail term or paying the fine?
- Shadrake must secure bond (equivalent to the jail term and fine) before he leaves?
Those who know, please teach me some.
Meanwhile, more update is available here. [

With the latest goings-on in the court and parliament [

Sad that Minister mentioned they will not be doing a 'witch hunt' in MHA, but carried out a witch hunt in Mas Selamat family. Wonder - does ISA do waterboarding to get confessions?
If he is allowed to leave without serving his term or paying the fine, that confirms one of two things that people always suspect, namely, that either power or money can really change the course of justice.
The British Foreign Minister's words does make a difference, it seems. Of course his expression of 'dismay' indicates that the verdict in this case is something that he never, or ever come across anywhere else in the world.
AG way to resolve the issue has already validated what Alan Shadrake has claimed in his book. That our kangaroos are really kangaroos because they can do whatever to justify themselves and their action regardless of justice. That Singapore gov are nothing but political cowards just like unspeakable refused-to-died freak that can only bully the local and opp parties. They can even do it publicly, don't even talk about underneath the table. I don't think we need Alan to convince us further. The eyes can see.
