YOG - Youth Olympics Gone (before the trail got blazed)

We are cheaper, better and faster in getting YOG in Singapore.

Having overrun the the budget from $104m to $400m, I thought we would have b(r)ought superstars to grace this costly event. Unfortunately, appointed Games' ambassadors, Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps, are giving YOG a miss as they have more important things to do. Or is the MCYS YOG Committee too cheap to ensure their presence?

"Even though I can't make it in person, because I'll be competing at the US Nationals and (hopefully) Pan-Pacific (Championships), I will definitely be there in spirit," wrote Phelps, who won a record eight golds at the 2008 Olympics. [Link]

Well, who can blame him for not turning up?

Like Phelps, we Sinkapooreans can't be there because we have to be cheaper, faster and better at cleaning toilets, clearing bowls and plates at hawkers centres, hard at work in office or slogging in the field from selling properties, keropok, otah, french caps to tissue papers just to make ends meet the perpetual rising cost of living in Sinkapoor.

But we will definitely be there in YOG . . . in spirit!

Except for those who directly benefit from YOG like supplying food and french caps [Link], whoTF would want to get involve in some silly rah-rah self-image building exercise by 'elite whites' at the expense of tax payers' hard-earned money!

I hope Dr Vivian Balakrishnan won't be annoyed by my heartfelt concern and start calling me names like “small-minded”, “unfair” and “very, very selfish” [Link] just because the YOG has become an anti-climax instead of an orgasmic high!

Is YOG - Youth Olympic's Gone before the games even started?

The YOG is nothing more than a glorified school meet. The morons who bid for it were simply looking at the word 'Olympics' and figured it would be a feather in their collective caps when National Day honours are handed out..

The international media doesn't give a shit about it. Nobody buiys a bad product knowingly. Of course, the glory boys who run the PAP saw it as an opportunity to masturbate in public yet again, while we lesser mortals look on in awe.

Notice how the invisible man, our ever-missing PM, has distanced himself from the YOG after the euphoria of personally announcing Singapore's successful bid to great fanfare (at the Padang wasn't it? Remember that?

That's typical of him isn't it? Go AWOL when things go wrong.

Perhaps someday, the YOG will become a big sporting event. But not just yet.

You see, Mr Fish, the thing about the PAP is, being first is everything. Like they keep talking about the first F1 night race. So they've rushed into the YOG and will depend on the Shitty Times to give it huge coverage - the illusion of success!

But I'm with you Mr Fish, I have no job, Thanks to the fcuking PAP and their foreign policy. So I've got a whole lot of other things on my mind. Watching a bunch of kids play, isn't one of them.

I have a suggestion for Vivian. I would suggest he get in touch with Lim Sway Sway to galvanise the whole NTUC. Send them by the busload to attend every YOG event. Maybe Zorro can put in an appearance too. Lord knows he has too much time on his hands. Oh Vivian, if you're reading this, just make sure Sway Sway doesn't open his mouth.

Hahaha

I am sure there will be a lot of spirits at the YOG. After all, it is the Chinese Hungry Ghost Month.

Fish,
people like me would love to support and attend YOG If only Vivian and Teo Ser Luck can guarantee Spore will win most of the gold medals.

it is damn disappointing not to hear this from the two buggers!
afterall, the buggers from the PAP have engineered a winning streak for 50 years.

seriously, it should be a breeze for the PAP to use their proven tactics to Fix the outcome in YOG

for example:
Fix foreign relay teams in the 4x100m, 4x400m with greasy batons;
Fix foreign netball teams playing spore with an enlarged hoop;
Fix foreign sprinters with starting blocks that slide backwards when running against spore;
and of course, to be doubly cocksure in securing the desired outcome for spore,
Fix the umpiring system! i.e to be manned by people like me who enjoy having our palms greased with $$$$

what the heck! after 50 years of exposure to Fixing, majority of sporeans should be pretty good in it.

the PAP is actually spoilt for choice getting sporeans to help Fix the outcome...only have to cough out the money.

If Singaporean Parents stop their school going children from being make use of(exploited/manipulated) and those civil servants and government-linked organizations employees decline to be mobilized to volunteer for the YOG Event, it will cost multiple times more the 400 Millions.

BUT, the money can be considered well spent if compared to the BILLIONS LOST IN FOREIGN INVESTMENTS.

I rather see Singapore host Paralympics game instead of the other over glorify games, the human spirit is truly exemplified by the athletics’ tenacity and overcoming personal odd. The regular Olympic are like beauty pageant with silicone enhanced breast and liposuction lead figure (no offense intended, as all men I like beautiful things). Anyway Kudos to Bala and Teo, you are written into the history book and forever exonerated by the future generation “流芳百世”, while we mortal continue our measly existence…

The Singapore Government thought we could be like the Chinese, when a million of its citizens volunteered during the Beijing Olympics. Patriotism is now at its height in China and the people are proud of belonging to their country, China.

The Chinese Government, or at least the leaders, have their ears to the ground and have demonstrated their total commitment to help the Chinese people, be it in times of trouble or in forging ahead on the economic front. They are seen to be truly sacrificing for the country on a pittance. That is their rallying attribute.

The Singapore Government truly miscalculated the support of its citizens in holding the YOG, but as usual, that is never to be admitted. I believe most of the volunteers were arm-twisted to help as volunteers. I may be wrong, as die hard PAP supporters and new citizens will answer the call, for the purpose of gaining merit or medals later on.

Singaporeans, or at least the majority, have over the last decade or so, been totally disappointed with the Government for turning a deaf ear concerning the influx of foreigners, HDB pricing and cost of living problems, so much so that, out of spite, patriotism is no longer something they care about or take pride in showing, unlike the Chinese.

The alienation process is accelerating and no campaigns of any kind will succeed in reversing the trend. The 'couldn't care less' attitude is a quiet protest against the Government. They ignore us, we ignore them, just like the people in Myanmar towards their ruling regime.

This coming election will see some of the effects.

Ya, dont see any spontaneous interest for this event like u see in World cup, World Olympics. Dont see the international media getting excited too. Instead, u hear of countries needed to b persuaded or asking to be sponsored for sending their teams. Does it not tell u YOG is jus Olympic in name only and not worth bidding a high price for? Wondering if our tiny little dot kingdom has become an international joke for thinking otherwise?
