Have we lost the virtue of doing good in secret?

As one heart attack patient to another, I would humbly advise Khaw Boon Wan that "If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen! No point getting another AMI over it. Believe me, the best gift that you can give to those who love you and those you love is to stay healthy!"

Why would a a guy who is paid millions bitch about his job? Having said that he wished to be more "useful" by being a mintster of national development, [Link] I can't understand why he'd write, "I have been in MND for 5 weeks, and not sleeping well. I am working my guts out to try to calm the market, for the good of all Singaporeans" in his blog [Link].

Some people think that they do great things! Others simply move on doing things to make ends meet without any avenue to "cowpeh cowbu"! Can KBW spare a thought for
  • the bus driver who moonlights as a delivery driver
  • the security guard who moonlights as a bouncer
  • the housewife mother of four who moonlights as a beer promoter at the coffee shop
  • the aunt who has to tie her nephews so that she can work to eke out an income
before he tells the whole world of how he's losing sleep and working his guts out!

The people listed above are those who have insufficient sleep to heal and recuperate. They are the ones who work their guts out for pittance, compared to what the ministers are getting!

Damned! What does he expect? To be paid millions and have the luxury to sleep on the job? Or does he want a therapist to massage him in between parliament sittings?

There is no free lunch. Not even for a heart attack patient! I know because having been there and done that (hit by AMI), I have had my fair share of, "You are a heart attack patient, so what? You want sympathy?"

With their kind of heavenly remuneration, why can't they just STFU and get the job done without whining like a cry baby! Don't they know that there is virtue and joy in doing good in secret?

Or is doing good in secret alien to them?

Meanwhile, excuse me while I go get some sleep because I've been working my guts out writing . . .

Khaw Boon Wan merely psychologically solicits for sympathies and to show that he is 'working' hard. And the people are expected to be more forgiving of all wrongs in the past and whatever that can happen in the future.
Doing good need not be secrets,JUST DON'T BRAG about it.
Doing good must be known without publicity and 'advertised', so that others can be influenced; emulate, learn and be humane.
BUT, let me tells my fellow mankind that there is one deed that MUST BE KEPT in ones' heart all the time when alive. Never announce, proclaim or remind others that one is holy, pious and religious. This is not going to do any good to others nor the believer him/herself.

KBW wanted straits Times reporter to print out his own sympathy by blogging. On the other hand, he also wanted Singaporeans help to solve the housing problems. Gosh!! than why did he volunteer to clean up MBT's shit in the first place?

Which responsible executive job doesn't come with sleepless nights? KBW is paid 3million bucks a year and we are paid ?? a fraction of his salary. There is an alternative KBW -QUIT.

aiyah why so tough on our minister khaw.
when they show some empathy we say they kpkb.
when they don't show any emotion, we say they heartless robot.
way i interpret it is he feels a sense of great responsibility to the nation (5m people ok) and any wrong move on the property market he can go from hero to zero v. quickly..is a fine line to thread lah. pay you $3m you want to do the job or not?
either way, i think he's just trying to say *wink* he's not taking it lightly...bear with him while he wakes up at night to crack some ideas/solutions lah.
not saying you or others didn't go through equally hard time but if everyone can start (somewhere) to be more empathetic then there's a chance of two-way street right?
What if Prez Nathan said he's been secret but doing good anyway..do u take that shit?!!

This is what happens when our leaders keep telling Singaporeans that "Singapore does not owe you a living."

It's a 2-way street.

Since leaders don't owe the citizens a living, then don't expect citizens to owe our leaders a living either.

I die is my business.
So you die is also your business.

This is "nation" building PAP style.

As Housing Minister. he thinks he is doing a great svc blogging his thots on housing as if he is some authority on the subject when he is less 6 mths on the job. The way he mulls and implicitly announces policy changes like putting DBSS flats on hold. Is unbecoming and irresponsible for his ministerial office. It is like policy making on the go, keeping interested flat buyers on their toes. Not also dicounting the public relations nightmares for his ministry's staff. May as well lay off his ppl and save public funds. He tries too hard to be social media savvy. All the pappies do since they heavily in this arena in GE2011.
